Alex William Torres was born on 3 December 1981 in Santiago, Chile, to José and Maria Torres. Seeking a fresh start, his parents moved to Hobart, Tasmania, when Alex was just a toddler. José, a doctor, and Maria, a school teacher, worked hard to establish a stable and loving home for their family in their new country. Growing up, Alex was deeply influenced by his parents' dedication to their professions and their resilience in adapting to a new culture.
Alex's childhood in Hobart was a blend of Tasmanian wilderness and Chilean cultural heritage. He attended St. Virgil's College from 1987 to 1999, where he developed a strong sense of community and an interest in emergency services. Alex's fascination with helping others was evident from a young age, often volunteering as the 'medic' during school camping trips with a makeshift first aid kit.
After high school, Alex pursued paramedic training at the University of Tasmania, where he graduated with honours in 2003. His career began in Hobart, but his desire to learn and experience more led him to work in various locations across Australia. He gained invaluable experience working in remote areas, bustling cities, and everything in between, broadening his understanding of emergency medicine and humanity.
In 2010, Alex returned to Hobart, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deepened commitment to his profession. As a seasoned paramedic, he became known for his quick thinking, calm demeanour, and ability to handle high-pressure situations. His rugged appearance, with short, dark hair and a tanned complexion, reflected his active lifestyle and hours spent in the field.
In August 2018, Alex's life took a dramatic turn when he was deployed to Clivilius through a mysterious portal to assist in the aftermath of a catastrophic bus collision. Alongside Nurse Jackson Roberts and Dr Glenda De Bruyn, Alex's expertise in triage and emergency care was crucial in assessing and stabilising the injured passengers. His skills and the medical supplies he helped gather were vital in addressing the injuries of the trapped and injured passengers.
Unable to return to Earth, Alex embraced his new reality and settled in Bixbus. He dedicated himself to developing the medical infrastructure in the fledgling settlement, working tirelessly to ensure that the residents received the best possible care. Alex's contributions were instrumental in the successful establishment of a sustainable and effective emergency medical system in Bixbus.
Outside of his demanding career, Alex remains an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys hiking, camping, and fishing, finding solace and inspiration in the rugged landscapes of Bixbus. His personal life is enriched by his partner, Emily, a nurse he met during a challenging rescue operation, and their two children, Lucas and Isabella. Together, they share a home in a quiet suburb of Bixbus, blending their Chilean heritage with their new life in the settlement.
